Choosing Your Builder – Tips and Tricks by Robert Devalt
Paving jobs takes time, cost some money and could cause a lot of headaches. You can save yourself considerable time and money especially on big projects by planning your paving project carefully. By planning ahead and getting an idea of what exactly you wanted, chances are, you can maximize the time and money you would put in to your project.
Do Your Homework
Your part doesn’t end in finding money on your paving project. You also have to make sure that the project would warrant the expenses.
Know exactly what you want. Do you want a simple, durable driveway or an elegant patio? Where do you want to put it? Is there a specific color or pattern you want to see in the end design? How much are you willing to shell out? How much time do you have? It is best to study some aspects of paving to give you an idea. Visit some sites about paving to look for paving techniques, design and advises.
It is also important to know the current laws and ordinances that could affect the manner you do your paving projects. You can save a lot of trouble by making sure you are doing things right the first time. Secure all needed permits and insurances before letting anybody overhaul your backyard or garden.
Know Your Contractor
Never let the first contractor you find in the net touch your driveway without making sure you are paying the best contractor you can find. Price should not be the sole factor in choosing your contractor. More often than not, these contractors will leave you with substandard pavement or bill you more to get what you wanted, and you may end up paying more than you should be paying. Don’t fall for nice project samples either. It best if you could see the sample yourself.
It’s best to look for paving contractor who have done similar projects before. You can look in the internet or your own neighborhood for paving projects. Check their insurance policies and other vital information about the company. Once you have a list of paving companies, you may want to contact them and ask for price quotes for specific project requirements. You can also ask for the addresses of their past projects. Projects dating back 20 years are better because you can check the durability and consistency of the work. When you get your price estimates, don’t get the lowest price offered. Look for their insurance coverage in cases of accidents and guarantees against faulty job work. And lastly, make sure all things are in writing.
